Trace window is empty

I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong but the only events I ever see are Trace started/stopped. I was hoping to use this tool to assist in debugging a web application but ut doesn't appear to capture any of the sql queries performed. :\

At first make sure that you are connecting to proper instance of sql server
Use Start Trace/Run with Filters menu to bring up "Trace properties" window, select "Columns and Events" tab and make sure that needed events selected in "Events" category (selected events marked with bold "true" option). Select Batch:Completed event. Hit Run button.
After starting trace connect to the same instance with either SSMS or sqlcmd and run, say, sp_who to check if trace is captured.

I guess i should add warning when starting trace with no events selected.

Hmm. I had already enabled filters and still only see Trace started.

I'm using SQLExpress and the app is pre-populating the Server instance field with .\SQLExpress.

If I attempt changing this to (LocalDb)\v11.0 it throws an unhandled exception.
